Future Products

The National Mapping Division of Geoscience Australia is continuously developing new products and services to fulfill demand for fundamental geographic information. Products and services currently under development include the following:

• GEODATA TOPO 2.5M
• Gazetteer of Australia 2002
• GEODATA TOPO 5M
• NATMAP Raster 250K Mosaic

Product Description: GEODATA TOPO 2.5M is an update of the existing MAPDATA TOPO 2.5M to GEODATA specifications. The GEODATA TOPO 2.5M will be a seamless mapping dataset at 1:2.5 million scale which covers all of Australia suitable for GIS applications. The dataset includes water-bodies, reefs, state borders, islands, built-up areas, roads, streams, canals, localities and railways. Attributes are provided for some features including a road classification attribute and a stream perenniallity attribute.

Product Description: Gazetteer of Australia 2002 will be an update of the existing Gazetteer of Australia 2001. It is a listing of Australia's geographical names and their locations. This is an authorised list compiled by Geoscience Australia using data provided by the respective State and Territory authorities.

Format: Fixed width ASCII text on a CD-ROM

Product Description: GEODATA TOPO 5M is a new product, generalised from the GEODATA TOPO 2.5M dataset. It will be a seamless mapping dataset to GEODATA specification, suitable for GIS applications.

Product Description: NATMAP Raster 250K Mosaic builds on the existing NATMAP Raster 250K Mapsheets. The product will provide access to a single image of all of the 250K NATMAPs georeferenced to latitude/longitude coordinates. This mosaic allows continuous panning throughout Australia. When this product will be released, all the NATMAP 250K maps in this product will be to the new mapping specification, providing a consistant map presentation across the whole country. As a bonus, the product will be complimented by a Landsat 7 satellite image mosaic of Australia.
