Minerals Alert June 2008
Mt Isa seismic workshopA workshop presenting the results of the 2006 Mt Isa Deep Seismic Survey will be held at the Mt Isa Civic Centre on 24 June 2008, starting at 8:30am and running until 5:00pm. This survey was designed to document the crustal architecture of the Mt Isa Inlier and assess the control of structure on the formation of Zn-Pb, Cu, Cu-Au and U prospects. The workshop will present an overview of the geology of the Mt Isa Inlier followed by a description of seismic methods and key results of seismic traverses in the Lawn Hill Platform and the northern central and southern parts of the Mt Isa Inlier. Morning and afternoon teas and lunch will be provided. Although no charges will be made to attend the workshop, registration is required for catering. Contact Helen Keogh or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9566 to register. For further information email David Huston or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9577. New Perspectives - The foundations and future of Australian exploration conference 11-12 June 2008New Perspectives, the foundation and future of Australian exploration conference will be held in the University Club, at the University of Western Australia. The conference examines the developments from the Enabling Technology research stream based on the pmd*CRC's unique '5 Question' approach to mineral exploration. Changes to industry practice initiated by the pmd*CRC, together with its delivery processes, have been positively received by industry and made possible through the unique work flow practice implemented in the research program. The conference aims to:
The conference will be the final major gathering of the pmd*CRC's sponsors and researchers to mark its seventh year and is open to non-sponsors interested in the work developed by the pmd*CRC. To register or download a copy of the program visit the pmd*CRC website. For more information email, Helen Keogh or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9566. Mineral exploration through the cover: How far have we come?Geoscience Australia is one of eight core parties in the Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environments and Mineral Exploration (CRC LEME) which was established in June 2001 and winds up at the end of June 2008. One of the Centre's key objectives has been the development of an effective means of exploring through cover. On 25 June 2008 at Geoscience Australia in Canberra leading researchers in CRC LEME will gather to review the contribution of the CRC's research to the mineral exploration sector. The day long symposium is a unique opportunity for industry and government geoscientists to acquaint themselves with the outcomes of CRC LEME research. Hardcopies of a number of important CRC LEME products will be available free of charge on a first come basis. Registration is free, but seating is limited. Lunch and morning and afternoon tea will be provided. To download a copy of the Program, please visit CRC LEME or register online. If you would like to attend please register your interest via email to Sally Moon or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9336. New Gravity Survey Data added to the Australian National Gravity DatabaseGravity data from two recent surveys conducted for Mineral Resources Tasmania have been incorporated into the Australian National Gravity Database. A total of 1,072 stations from the surveys located in the North East and North West of Tasmania were provided to Geoscience Australia by Mineral Resources Tasmania. GeoScience Victoria has provided the Bendigo - Mitiamo gravity data from its 2007 survey north of Bendigo. This survey of 8,050 stations together with an additional 490 open file company data provided by GeoScience Victoria have been incorporated into the Australian National Gravity Database. Gravity stations read in 2007 along the Central Victoria T13 Seismic Transect also have been made available by GeoScience Victoria. These 1,984 stations are included in the Australian National Gravity Database. All data in the Australian National Gravity Database, can be obtained free-of-charge using the Geophysical Archive Data Delivery System (GADDS). Australian Mines Atlas redevelopedIn 2003 Geoscience Australia launched the Australian Mines Atlas to provide an Internet-based, national framework of spatial data and information on the Australian minerals industry. The Australian Mines Atlas has been redeveloped and integrated within Geoscience Australia's core software and infrastructure framework for improved stability and public access. The redeveloped Atlas includes greater capability in zooming and downloading of custom data subsets for use in spreadsheets or with Google Earth. The Atlas includes the location of mineral and energy resources, existing and planned mines and mineral processing centres, thematic layers pertinent to mining and links to mining companies and jurisdictional legislation. It aims to:

Australia's Identified Mineral Resources 2008 (AIMR) - release of commodity assessment dataThe latest mineral resources assessment data for Australia, which includes solid fuels (coal and uranium), are now on the Geoscience Australia website. The data is available as a preliminary version ahead of the analysis and review of commodities, resource life and exploration, which is published annually by Geoscience Australia. The publication is scheduled to be released online by September. For further information, email Aden McKay; or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9230. Update on geophysical data releasesThe current status of Geoscience Australia's geophysical survey data acquisition is available in a comprehensive table. Requests for quotation close on 17 June 2008 on two surveys for the provision of magnetic and radiometric data over the Albany-Fraser Province of Western Australia. The Westmoreland, Cooper Basin North and Bass Strait data were released via GADDS in May 2008. For further information, email Murray Richardson or phone +61 (0)2 6249 9229.
