This Landsat 7 ETM+ (bands 1,4,7) image shows Stewart Island, located south of Invercargill, on the southern coast of New Zealand's South Island.

The island is the third largest in the New Zealand group. It is 64 km long and 40 km wide, at its widest point. The extensive coastline measures approximately 700 km. The rugged terrain is covered in temperate rainforest, a great habitat for wildlife. The kiwi, New Zealand's national symbol, is found everywhere on the island. The only town is Oban, with a permanent population of 400.
