This Landsat image is a mosaic of two Landsat 5 TM images showing the extent of flooding in northern New South Wales during mid-December 2004.
In these images water appears as shades of blue while moist bare soil appears as shades of red/pink. Healthy vegetation mostly appears as shades of green, with some Eucalypt forest in the south (Pilliga Scrub) tending to a brown colour. Some white scattered cloud and associated shadows appear in the south-west of the image.
The flood waters can mainly be seen west of Wee Waa, and north-west and south-west of Moree. Images such as these can be used by landholders, environmental professionals and emergency managers to map flood extents and to plan responses for future flood events. |
